Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi launched Preen By Thornton Bregazzi in ‘96 with a look that became instantly recognizably them. I’d call it “darkly romantic,” perfect for the edgy woman who has a hidden super girly aesthetic dying to break out. Thornton and Bregazzi have remained experts at mixing hard, asymmetrical lines and soft, floral patterns, and this consistency has led the brand to remain a favorite among street style stars and celebs alike.
Which brings me to today’s very deserved winner, Cate Blanchett. There’s rarely a time Cate steps out in something that doesn’t make me think, “Man, does she have a great risk-taking radar.” While some of her looks have been “out there” they’ve always been undeniably Cate, and she’d be the first to tell you it’s thanks to her superstar stylist Elizabeth Stewart that she’s able to make such bold, exciting choices.
Last night, Cate attended a party in Switzerland for luxury watch brand IWC Schaffhausen, wearing a piece from Preen’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection that you couldn’t ignore if you tried. The dress, made of French lace and 2.5 mm metallic sequins, according to the designers, was the perfect shade of aquamarine, which left Blanchett looking like the chicest high-fashion fish we’ve ever seen. “Cate really gravitated toward the unusual color of this dress,” Stewart, who also styles Jessica Chastain, Gal Gadot, Viola Davis tells InStyle.com.

Just how many sequins did it take to make that dress? "I would say 4,000, but there are too many to count. In weight, it’s 12 pounds," the designers told InStyle.com.
Never one to shy away from being fash-ON, the actress paired the dress the same way the designers did in their lookbook: with a pair of boots versus a demure stiletto.
Her most adorable accessory: her son, Roman Upton, who walked the red carpet alongside her, ever the perfect gentleman.
